What A Legacy
A good leader knows how to work with folks who appreciate them—and, as tough as it is, those who don’t.
John MacArthur never got that memo.
He alienated large groups of people in his lifetime of ministry. And yet… he never backed down.
He stayed true to his calling:
Preach the Word. Point North.
Years ago, I had the privilege of sitting down with Pastor MacArthur to discuss Strange Fire, his then-new book. It was a good conversation. Even then, he didn’t flinch. The point was clear:
The Word is our standard.
He wasn’t afraid to call out error—boldly, publicly.
But in that moment, what struck me most was something else.
He leaned in on the forbearance of God.
He talked about the grace that calls us back.
About how the church—wayward, wandering, distracted—can still repent and return.
That was his heartbeat.
Yes, he stood in the spotlight for the tough statements.
But underneath it all was a deep love for Christ and His Gospel.
Since 1969, John MacArthur preached the Word faithfully.
Unmoved. Unashamed. Uncompromising.
And now, this brother stands before the One he spent his life pointing to.
What a legacy.
